0 Seed Beads

We're thrilled to announce our monumental special purchase of over 200,000 kilos of Handmade Vintage Italian glass beads! We've bought up oodles of exquisite examples of fine, hand-crafted vintage Murano glass beads made by Societa Veneziana Conterie. Societa Veneziana Conterie was a consortium of 16 independent Venetian bead makers that joined together from 1898-1992. When the consortium shut its doors in 1992, our friends over at Prairie Edge Trading and Galleries rescued all of the consortium's remaining stock of glass beads from an uncertain future. Earlier this summer, we scooped up the the entire lot, to ensure that these little pieces of beaded history can once again be shared and appreciated by all! Most of our Vintage Venetian Seed, Crow, and Chevron Beads were manufactured between the late 1800's and 1920's, while our colorful and intricate Murano Mosaic beads were manufactured in the 1960's-70's.

Description:	A variety of corundum (aluminum oxide), Rubies and Sapphires are extremely hard. Ruby and Sapphire are actually the same stone. Ruby is the red form, while any other color of the rainbow is called Sapphire. It is common practice to heat treat Rubies and Sapphires to enhance color. Ruby is the July birthstone and associated with numerous metaphysical properties. Ruby is associated with blood flow, courage, and of course love. Sent to us by our vendors as "Ruby", it's safer to call this cheerful pink stone "Pink Sapphire".
