Unlike other gems, the pearl is born of water and living creatures. Pearls begin as a foreign body embedded within a mollusk's shell. The animal's defense against the foreign body is to form a protective layer of nacre around the intruder. The culturing process simply entails planting a "seed" within the mollusk, normally either a plastic bead or a small piece of shell, nature takes its course and another pearl is born. Our cultured freshwater pearls come in an ever growing variety of shapes, sizes and colors, so whatever your fashion preference you are sure to find the pearl to suit your needs. Ancient beliefs about the origin of the pearl include: moonlight filled dewdrops and Aphrodite's tears of joy. Although not technically a stone, pearl is one of June's birthstones. Currently, the International Commission of Colored Gemstones (CIBJO) recognizes only five organic (once living material) gemstones: Ammolite, amber, pearl, jet, and coral. Description:	Miyuki Delica Hex beads are superior quality machine made Japanese seed beads. Japanese seed beads are known for their uniform size and cut consistency standards, which makes them excellent beads for bead weaving and looming. Delica Hex (2-Cut) seed beads are cylinder or tube shaped with facets while Czech 2- Cut seed beads are round with facets. The facets of these beads add lots of fabulous texture and sparkle to your seed bead designs. Size 11 Miyuki Delica beads measure about 1.6mm in diameter and are sold per gram. Expect to receive about 190-200 beads per gram, or 1710-1800 beads per 9 gram package. Some metallic and galvanized beads are not colorfast. Test for colorfastness before use. Avoid excessive exposure to sunlight and chemicals. Remove jewelry before washing and bathing. Hand wash with water or mild soap if you must clean embroidery.
