This widely popular gem is the fossilized resin or sap from coniferous trees that lived anywhere from 2 - 360 million years ago. The most interesting and valuable pieces of amber will contain inclusions of long extinct plant debris or small animals. Magical properties attributed to amber include cleansing, calming and protective effects. Currently the International Commission of Colored Gemstones (CIBJO) recognizes only five organic (once living material) gemstones: Ammolite, amber, pearl, jet, and coral.

Description:	This superior quality Mexican turquoise comes from the Nacozari mine in Sonora, Mexico. Nacozari turquoise is sometimes shortened to Naco or Nako turquoise. Turquoise from the Nacozari mine is a bright robin's egg blue with little matrix. These unique sliced nuggets range in size from 20-35mm and will made phenomenal focal pieces for your turquoise designs. Turquoise has been a highly popular semi-precious gem to many societies from the Egyptians to the Aztecs since ancient times. Turquoise is a very porous material, so heat, light, oils, and chemicals can have a negative effect on the stones color and luster. Because of this trait, most turquoise on today's jewelry market has been treated or "stabilized" with a plastic resin. Turquoise is most popular in southwestern fashions. Use turquoise beads with sterling silver beads findings, as well as heishi shells.
