Obsidian is less fragile than standard window glass, and was often fashioned into sharp cutting edges by stone age man. Snowflake Obsidian is highly valued for jewelry creation due to its strikingly bold white inclusions giving the stone the appearance of snowflakes against a black sky.

It is most commonly reddish brown, but is also available in either blue or green.
