99HP109: Buffalo Horn Pipe 6 Inch - 4 Pieces
Hair pipe beads are long tubular beads that have been an integral feature of many Native American adornments since prehistoric times. Hair pipes often have tapered ends, but not always. The beads typically have a hole size of 1/8", but some may have a narrower hole. The origin of the name hair pipe is obscure at best. Hair pipe beads became a very popular trade bead amongst traders, and mass quantities were produced by wampum manufacturers. Shell hair pipe beads were even carried by the Lewis and Clark expedition.
