About Us

Beginning its journey in 1969, Shipwreck Beads has been an embodiment of perseverance and adaptability. Initially situated within a modest 750 square-foot building by the tranquil Mud Bay in Olympia, Washington, the store has since expanded exponentially. Initially called "Shipwreck," it debuted as a nautical-themed antique store, modestly adorned with a unique collection of trade beads. However, in 1982, a significant shift occurred—the beads started taking center stage, charting a new course for the business and leading to the establishment of the renowned Shipwreck Beads.

Our journey of expansion has been remarkable. From our small original outlet, we have grown into a colossal 80,000 square-foot behemoth, still radiating the warm essence of our familial roots. The fond memories of our long-term customers visiting the original store at Mud Bay make the transition even more special.

Our expansive 22,000 square-foot showroom, resplendent with billions of beads from floor to ceiling, is a visual spectacle and a designer's haven. At first glance, the seemingly infinite collection can seem overwhelming, but our meticulously organized aisles make it navigable. Our highly trained, amicable sales staff is always eager to assist customers, transforming their quest for the perfect bead into a memorable experience.

As the premier US retailer of Czech glass beads, Shipwreck Beads takes pride in offering an unparalleled selection, including coveted favorites like Preciosa Ornela seed beads, fire-polished glass beads, and Preciosa Crystal beads. In addition, our diverse inventory boasts a plethora of gemstones, sterling silver, lamp work beads, pewter, books, beading accessories, and jewelry-making tools. We are a one-stop destination for all your beading needs, complemented by an array of in-store jewelry making classes.

Our commitment to exceptional customer service, diverse product range, and accessible location has cultivated a vibrant community of patrons. Shipwreck Beads is adored by an eclectic mix of jewelry designers, small bead shop owners, large corporations, church groups, crafters, children, and college students hailing from near and far. Our ceaseless endeavor to refresh our inventory means that there's always something new to discover on each visit.

While we wish all bead enthusiasts could revel in the natural beauty of Western Washington, we encourage you to experience the grandeur of our vast showroom at least once. The summers here are nothing short of breathtaking, making it the perfect backdrop for your visit to Shipwreck Beads.
