Seed Bead Size Guide
Seed beads use the aught system: the larger the aught number, the smaller the bead — an 11/0 is smaller than a 6/0. Sizes below are for Czech rocailles; diameters vary slightly by color and finish.

Larger sizes (1/0–5/0) and micro sizes (16/0 and smaller) are also made. Micro beads are best worked with a fine needle and a beading tray. Japanese Delica cylinders come in 8/0, 10/0, 11/0, and 15/0 and are not interchangeable with Czech rounds at the same size.
Choosing Your Seed Beads
- Czech Rocaille (Preciosa) — Rounded shape with the widest color and finish range. A great all-purpose bead for embroidery, fringe, and flowing designs. Many colors are available strung on hanks.
- Japanese Delica (Miyuki) — Precision cylinder with a large hole and very uniform shape, ideal for loom and peyote patterns where every bead lines up.
- Antique Venetian — Original new-old-stock glass prized for historical reproduction and collecting. Sizing is approximate, so pre-sort before count-critical projects.
Delicas and Czech rounds are not interchangeable at the same aught size — they sit differently in the work, so swatch before substituting.
