Antique SVC Venetian Color Lined 10/0 Seed Beads — Clear Orange

Genuine Venetian 10/0 seed beads from old Società Veneziana Conterie warehouse stock, in Clear Orange — a color-lined construction with colorless crystal glass over a warm orange lining at the core. The color lives inside the bead rather than in the glass itself, which is what separates this from a transparent orange: each bead shows a bright glassy clear rim around an orange center, and the lining reads slightly coral where it is thickest.

Massed together the lot has a mottled, light-filled quality that a solid-glass bead cannot reproduce. Light enters through the clear outer wall, picks up color from the lining, and returns with a sparkle at every bead edge. Because the color sits at the channel rather than through the wall, the effect shifts noticeably with viewing angle — rows can look saturated head-on and much paler in raking light.

Lining variation in this lot is pronounced. Some beads carry a full, saturated orange core; many others are noticeably paler, with thin, patchy, or broken lining, and a small number read as very nearly clear. Dark specks appear in a number of beads as well. This range is characteristic of lined antique stock — linings were applied by hand and have aged unevenly over a century — and it is the honest character of the lot rather than a sorting fault.
