Genuine Venetian 10/0 seed beads from old Società Veneziana Conterie warehouse stock, in Orange #3 — a bright pumpkin-tangerine in fully transparent glass. This is a clean, high-chroma orange that sits well clear of both red and yellow: lighter and more vivid than the dark golden amber oranges in this collection, with none of the brown-gold depth those carry. Buyers matching period work should treat the two as separate colors, not shades of one.

Square hole. These are square-hole rocailles, drawn from square-section cane rather than round. In an opaque bead a square hole is a structural detail you only notice when threading; in transparent glass it becomes a visible optical signature — the square perforation reads straight through the bead wall as a distinct square silhouette suspended inside a round bead, and the flat interior faces of the channel catch and return light in a way a round hole does not. It is the single fastest way to confirm a match against period Venetian work, and it is why a round-hole transparent orange will not substitute here no matter how well the color agrees. Square holes also seat slightly differently on thread than round, which can subtly change how tightly rows pack in loom and peyote work.

Being fully transparent, the color compounds where beads overlap: single beads at the edge of a spread are bright and almost yellow-lit, while massed areas deepen into a saturated pumpkin noticeably darker than any one bead. A fair number of beads carry dark interior specks and inclusions, clearly visible against the transparent glass. These are manufacturing artifacts consistent with cane-drawn Murano production and with stock that was never sorted or strung for the bead trade — not defects introduced in handling.
