Antique SVC Venetian Transparent 14/0 Seed Beads — Orange #4

Genuine Venetian 14/0 seed beads from old Società Veneziana Conterie warehouse stock, in Orange #4 — a clean, bright transparent orange sitting near the middle of the range: warmer and lighter than the dark golden ambers, without the yellow-gold lean of the marigolds or the red lean of the pumpkin tones. In a small bead this reads as a vivid, uncomplicated orange, which is exactly what makes it useful as a color you can place a lot of without it dominating.

Being fully transparent, the color compounds where beads overlap: isolated beads at the edge of a spread are bright and light-filled, while massed areas build to a deeper amber-orange noticeably richer than any single bead. A number of beads carry dark interior specks and a few show larger amber-brown inclusions, clearly visible against the transparent glass. These are cane-drawn Murano manufacturing artifacts and evidence of uncirculated old stock never sorted or strung for the bead trade, not damage from handling.

These are round-hole beads. Note that this same transparent-orange family also includes square-hole colorways in this collection — if your reference material shows the square perforation reading through the bead wall, that is a different bead and this one will not substitute for it.

At 14/0 this is a genuinely small working size, finer than the 11/0 and 10/0 rounds most beadworkers keep on hand. It suits fine detail lines, tight edge beading, delicate fringe, and restoration of period pieces worked in small stock, but it wants a fine needle and thread sized to match.
