Melon is the name written on the card, not a description of the hue you will get. Anyone expecting cantaloupe orange should stop here. In the dish this stock reads as a soft warm rose — a dusty coral-pink with just enough warmth in it to explain the name, but firmly on the pink side of the line. Massed, it deepens toward antique rose; strung as a single row it thins out to a pale blush.

Pale transparents behave differently from saturated ones. Because the glass is both clear and light in value, everything behind it contributes: your thread colour reads straight through the channel, and the ground fabric tints the whole field. A white thread keeps these crisp and cool; a warm or dark thread will pull them noticeably muddier. Work a test length before committing to a large area — the thread is a colour decision here, not a hardware decision.

Lot character. Clarity is not uniform across this stock. Some beads are cleanly glassy, others carry an internal haze that reads slightly milkier, and both are correct for period Venetian transparents — the batch chemistry simply was not consistent. That spread is part of why antique pink beadwork has depth that modern uniform stock cannot imitate. Dark specks in the perforations are normal here, kiln and annealing debris from period production; plan on a pre-sort for count-critical or uniform-face work.

Sizing and threading. SVC 10/0 measures 2.40–2.70mm across with a perforation in the 0.70–0.80mm range, working out to roughly 13–15 beads to a strung inch. A size 10–12 needle with 0.10–0.18mm thread — KO, One-G or Nymo B/D — handles it comfortably. Antique holes are undocumented and vary lot to lot, and adjacent SVC sizes overlap far more than modern ones do, so test-thread a sample and reach for calipers rather than the card notation before anything count-critical. Strung counts on antique lots are estimates.

Where this material belongs. This is a restoration pink — Victorian and Edwardian floral embroidery, ribbon-and-bead millinery, doll-scale work, anything where a modern bubblegum pink announces itself as a replacement the moment it goes in. Production era is Early 20th Century.
