Antique SVC Venetian Color Lined Micro Seed Beads — Dark Orange

Genuine Venetian micro seed beads from old Società Veneziana Conterie warehouse stock, in a color-lined dark orange. The construction is clearly visible in this lot: colorless transparent glass carries a rich orange lining at the core, so the color comes from within the bead rather than from the glass itself. Individual beads show a clear rim of glass around a saturated center; massed together, the lot reads as a deep, spiced pumpkin-orange with a glassy brightness that a solid opaque orange cannot produce.

This lined construction is the same optical principle that makes whitehearts distinctive — the color glows from inside the bead, filtered and brightened by the transparent outer layer. The clear glass also means the perceived tone shifts subtly with light and viewing angle, giving finished beadwork a lively, dimensional quality. As with all lined beads, the lining is the working surface of the color: avoid prolonged moisture and abrasion, and test a sample before any application involving heavy wear.

For restoration and traditional beadwork, color-lined beads are their own category — substituting a transparent, opaque, or greasy orange of similar hue will lose the lined construction's inner glow and clear outer rim, and will read as incorrect next to original lined work. Sizing note for all SVC micro seed beads: These beads are sold as micro seed beads in the 16/0–24/0 range. Random sampling and measurement across our SVC micro inventory has confirmed that individual beads within any given lot range from approximately 0.9mm to 1.5mm, spanning multiple nominal size designations. This is characteristic of hand-drawn Murano micro production, where the extremely fine cane diameter made precise size control difficult at this scale. The variation is inherent to the manufacturing process, not a sorting or grading inconsistency on our part. We disclose this range rather than assigning a single size that does not accurately represent the lot. This particular lot measured approximately 1.38–1.51mm at sampling — the larger end of the micro range, corresponding most closely to a traditional 16/0.

Note: Due to their extremely small size, these micro beads may not be suitable for all beading projects. We recommend using a beading tray and fine beading needle for best results.
