Antique SVC Venetian Opaque Luster 12/0 Seed Beads — Yellow Green #1

Genuine Venetian 12/0 seed beads from old Società Veneziana Conterie warehouse stock, in Yellow Green #1 with an opaque luster finish. This is a bright chartreuse — new-growth green pulled well toward yellow, the color of spring leaves with sun coming through them — in solid opaque glass, wearing a pearlized luster coating that lifts it further. The luster is what separates this from a flat opaque green: it puts a faint iridescent bloom across the surface, so the color reads warmer and more alive as light moves over a finished piece.

At 12/0 these sit in the sweet spot between the workhorse 11/0 and the genuinely fine sizes — small enough for detailed pictorial work and tight gourd stitch, still large enough to thread without a magnifier. Massed together the luster produces an even, satiny field with no individual sparkle points, which makes this an unusually effective color for foliage, stems, and any place you want green to read as living rather than painted.

Chartreuse is a demanding color and worth using deliberately. It fights most blues, sings against deep purples and warm browns, and will visually dominate a softer palette if given too much room. In restoration work an opaque luster green of this brightness is difficult to substitute — a plain opaque of the same hue reads noticeably duller side by side, and a transparent green loses the density entirely.

Sorting note: A few stray beads in other colors — a cobalt, a turquoise — are mixed into this lot. They came in with it from the warehouse rather than being added, and are easily picked out. Antique beads are measured from original stock and sizing is approximate; dimensions may vary between lots. We recommend pre-sorting before count-critical work.
