These 8mm Ashanti glass saucer beads are made from recycled glass in a rainbow medley of colors, bringing handcrafted West African bead-making tradition into your work.
The rainbow medley colorway means you'll pull a varied mix of hues from the strand, with the natural character you'd expect from handcrafted recycled glass.
Their flat saucer shape sits beautifully as spacers between larger focal beads in tribal-style necklaces, and they're a natural fit for stringing projects inspired by African adornment traditions, where mixed color and organic texture are part of the appeal.

Checkout this beautiful strand of multicolor Ashanti glass saucer beads. The process of making these beads is unique to Africa and has been used for over 1000 years. Pulverized glass of various colors is poured into a clay mold, using a cassava stem for the bead's hole. The mold is placed in a furnace and heated until the glass particles congeal without actually melting and the stem burns out. The Ghanaians have been making beads in this manner since the 1600s. Each bead measures approximately 2-3 x 8-10mm in size, with strands measuring approximately 24"
